audiography -- my latest offerings . . .
THEME: COLORS: Black Blue Red Pink Pearl/Moonlight

1. The fact that Paint it Black has already shown up at least once in this theme speaks volumes about the greatness of this song. So, accordingly, I offer three versions. Paint It Black by The Rolling Stones -- the original, upon which all cover versions pay homage. From the 1966 album (US) Aftermath, notably Paint it Black is absent from the UK studio album of the same name. || BUY || Paint It Black by Deadsy -- from the 2006 album Phantasmagore, this is a decent cover in the style of the Family Values bands (i.e. Limp Bizkit, etc) || BUY || Paint it Black by VNV Nation, for all you synthpop-electronica freaks out there. I don't know which album this cover is from -- please leave a comment if you know so I can edit in the information. ||
2. Fade To Black by Metallica || Circa 1986 || If you haven't ever wept or angst'ed to Metallica's Fade to Black, you haven't properly emo'ed. Period. An anthem for teenage depression. || BUY ||
3. Dressed In Black by Depeche Mode || Circa 1990 || From the Black Celebration album || She's dressed in black again * And I'm falling down again * Down to the floor again * I'm begging for more again * But oh what can you do * When she's dressed in black . . . || BUY ||

4. Blue Bayou by Mireille Mathieu || Circa 1966 || A French cover of Roy Orbison's classic Blue Bayou || Mireille Matheiu has recorded over 1200 songs in nine different languages and was the first western performer to play in China following China's embrace of communism || BUY ||
5. Blue Monday by Orgy || Circa 1999 || One of those covers that, in my opinion (which is, of course, subjective) is better than the original version by New Order || Vibrant and exciting anthem for the spurned and vindictive! || BUY ||
6. Goodbye Blue Sky by Pink Floyd || Circa 1979 || From the uber classic album The Wall, Goodbye Blue Sky is an acoustic guitar song that manages to be both soothing and sinister within a very short timeframe || Deals with the neverending trauma during WWII of the bombings of England by the Germans || BUY ||

7. Red Red Red by Fiona Apple || Circa 2005 || From the album Extraordinary Machine, this is a quirky, Fionesque song about intrigue and relationships || BUY ||

8. Pink Martini by Endochine (featuring Brian Molto) || A fun, French tune with a nifty big band flavor || Album Unknown -- Please comment if you know the information to purchase Endochine ||
9. Theme from The Pink Panther by Skataline || DeadAnt-DeadAnt-DeadAntDeadAntDeadAntDeadAntDeadAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANT . . . I have a series of songs about pearls and moonlight -- such hard colors to pin down, yes? But, I know moonlight is beautiful and enchanting, and pearls are iridescent and elegant, so these next songs (save for one) are all from the Swing/Big Band era -- very relaxing, very classic and very apt to induce nostalgia. Swing/Big Band is a definite guilty pleasure of mine!
