The "Grown Up" Survey
(Meant to be completed by those out of high school)
Tired of all of those surveys made up by high school kids?
'Have you ever kissed someone?'
'Missed someone?'
'Told someone you loved them?'
'Drank alcohol?'
Here are 50 questions for the people who are a little more "mature"...
1. What bill do you hate paying the most?
Credit card bills -- it reminds me that I don't want to carry any form of credit card debt, ever, at all.
2. Where was the last place you had a romantic dinner?
Probably Sullivan's in Denver. It's been a while. But, you know, sometimes it's more romantic to cuddle up on the couch with a pizza and lots of blankets, and to watch a show we both love.
3. Last time you puked from drinking?
Embarrassingly enough, October of 2006. I had too many mojitos at Cuba Cuba, and spent, like, three hours in their bathroom puking. It was so embarrassing. SO embarrassing. My friends had to take care of me and everything. *cringes*
4. When is the last time you got drunk and danced on a bar?
Okay, this is a dumb question. How many people have actually danced on a bar ala Coyote Ugly? A better question would be, How long has it been since you got drunk and shagged a stranger or something... FWIW, I haven't done that since the 80s.
5. Name of your first grade teacher?
Wow, I totally don't remember :/
6. What do you really want to be doing right now?
I'd kind of like to be eating something.
7. What did you want to be when you were growing up?
My first career goal was to be a Cotton Candy Girl at Sea World. When I was in high school I had no idea what I wanted to do -- I vaguely thought about fashion design or journalism. I had a lifelong love of criminology, forensics and psychology, though, so when the opportunity came to do an internship in Probation, I feel in love with the career as a whole. I just never wanted to be a cop, or a social worker. Probation is a nice combination of law enforcement and social work.
8. How many colleges did you attend?
Two -- Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, and CU Boulder, where I got my BA from.
9. Why did you choose the shirt that you have on right now?
I'm in my pajamas. It is 1) warm and 2) pink.
10. GAS PRICES?
$2.89 a gallon for regular unleaded when I filled up the car on Thursday.
11. If you could move anywhere and take someone with you?
NYC, with my husband, children and parents. Alas, a girl can dream!
12. First thought when the alarm went off this morning?
Well, it's Saturday, so no alarm. But, the dogs stirred and I could hear their toenails clicking around on the wood floors. Of course I couldn't go back to sleep, because when they start sniffing around in the early a.m. it usually means they have to go out. And I can't ignore them when they have to go out, or else I'll have clean-up to deal with. So, I got up, thinking, Damn, it's cold today.
13. Last thought before going to sleep last night?
Scratch my back . . . ?
14. Favorite style of underwear?
The microfiber brief from Cacique. Yeah, yeah, they're completely unsexy, I know. But honestly? I don't care. These knickers RULE under my work garments. They never ride up, scrunch, give me a wedgie or show seams or lines. They are comfortable and I don't have to worry about them migrating throughout the day. Because of the shape of my rear, I cannot comfortably wear thongs, boy-style briefs, girl boxers or anything else fancy. Ladies, you all know that there is nothing more distracting and irratating than ill-fitting undergarments. They can seriously be enough to spoil what could have been a great outfit day! For the record, the microfiber balconette bra is my favorite bra, and I am also ruled by Spanx highwaisted body-shaping tights and Spanx topless trouser socks.
15. Favorite style of underwear for the opposite sex?
Boxers or boxer-briefs
16. What errand/chore do you despise?
I despise dusting.
17. If you didn't have to work, would you volunteer?
Yes, definitely. I'd probably volunteer in probation or with organizations for the homeless.
18. Get up early or sleep in?
Early. Even when I don't have to get up for work. Sleeping in for me is, like, 9:00 a.m.
19. What is your favorite cartoon character?
Hong Kong Phooey
20. Favorite NON sexual thing to do at night with a girl/guy?
DH and I love to find bits of comedy online or on TV. We also do a lot of cuddling and backrubbing and whatnot -- honestly, I think I crave that non-sexual touching just like DH craves sex.
21. Have you found real love yet?
Yes, with my husband, and then with the birth of our children ♥
22. When did you first start feeling old?
I don't feel old, actually. I mean, there are things that remind me that I'm not 16 anymore (like hearing the words "Full Knee Replacement"), but, geez, 40 is like the new 20, IMO! I've never felt better than I do now. While I don't like the little lines around my eyes all that much, I wouldn't want to trade them in to go back and be 20 again. That was a hard age for me and I felt very ungrounded and unsure of myself and my goals. I don't feel old at all. I feel young and vibrant!
23. Favorite 80's movie?
Oh man, to pick just one? I can't pick just one. I love The Breakfast Club, Some Kind of Wonderful, Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Valley Girl, Ferris Buellar's Day Off . . . Sid and Nancy, Platoon, Suburbia, Back to the Future, Risky Business . . . I mean, okay, John Cryer as Duckie in Pretty and Pink? OMG, it does not get better than that. It does not.
24. Your favorite lunch meat?
Rare, fresh, thinly sliced Angus roast beef
25. What do you get every time you go into Sam's Club?
I actually don't shop in bulk, at either Sam's or CostCo. I used to have a CostCo membership and I found that I actually spent more money at bulk warehouses than I did if I would just shop carefully from the weekly fliers for King Soopers (Kroger). I tend to be prone to impulsive purchases (this has improved over time), and I would kind of mentally fool myself into thinking that things were a good bargain -- and maybe they were -- but then I would spend more than my budget would allow on the "good bargain." And if one can't afford something, no matter the price, it's not a bargain.
26. Beach or lake?
Beach. I have so many wonderful memories of growing up on the beaches of San Diego. One of the must-do vacations on my Family Vacation list is to stay for a week at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club -- I would like to share that experience with my kids, at least once. Yeah, I'd better start saving ;P
27. Do you think marriage is an outdated ritual?
It isn't for me, but, technically, I think marriage is somewhat of an unnecessary formality, especially for non-religious folk like myself.
28. How many people do you stalk on livejournal?
I don't stalk anyone on Livejournal. But there are journals that I want to read more than others.
29. Favorite guilty pleasure?
Food, for sure. Gah, I have to find a new guilty pleasure now that food is just not soothing or fun anymore. I also like it when my husband does all the chores and I just watch TV or read a book or whatever.
30. Favorite movie you wouldn't want anyone to find out about?
Hahaha, that would be Titanic. I freakin' LOVE that movie! LOVE IT!
31. What's your drink?
I like a good vodka martini, dirty, with extra olives. My favorite vodka is Grey Goose, typically, although Stoli is a good choice, too.
32. Cowboys or Indians?
The probation officer in me says "Cowboys." The social worker in me says "Indians."
33. Cops or Robbers?
Cops, definitely.
34. Who from high school would you like to run into?
My roomie Yolanda and my roomie Julie G. Actually, I had a good high school experience and would love to see any and all of my friends from high school.
35. What radio station is your car radio tuned to right now?
NPR
36. Norm or Cliff?
Frasier and Lillith, actually.
37. The Cosby Show or the Simpsons?
For myself The Simpsons, but I really liked The Cosby Show too . . .
38. Worst relationship mistake that you wish you could take back?
It's too shameful to post publicly.
39. Do you like the person who sits directly across from you at work?
It depends, as this is usually a probationer who is in for an appointment. I have a private office with a door, so there is no other co-worker directly across from me.
40. If you could get away with it, who would you kill?
I wouldn't kill anyone.
41. What famous person(s) would you like to party with?
I think John Stewart would be interesting to talk to after a few drinks.
42. What famous person would you like to sleep with?
I still think Michael Pitt is hot.
43. Have you ever had to use a fire extinguisher for its intended purpose?
No. But I have had to use handcuffs for their intended purpose!
44. Last book you read for real?
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
45. Do you have a teddy bear?
No, but I have a green pillow that I haul around with me all the time. I've hauled around a pillow since I was like two years old.
46. Strangest place you have ever brushed your teeth?
In the shower.
47. Somewhere in California you've never been and would like to go?
Carmel or Napa Valley
48. Do you go to church?
No.
49. At this point in your life would you rather start a new career or a new relationship?
I'm still entertaining career options. I'd like to get my MA, but think it's prudent to wait until my kids are a bit older.
50. Just how OLD are you?
38!
