FASHION QUESTION

So, I have this dress in black:

I hate my upper arms, so I have this really cute black cardigan that will go over the top of the dress . . . but, can I wear these awesome, rich scarlet/wine tights that I have with black heels? I know monochromatic is always considered the best choice, but I don't want to be dressed in black from head to toe.

Or, should I wait and get a different-colored sweater and go with monochromatic on the black? This has been bothering me all day.

FWIW, I'm thinking of going for the scarlet tights, but I can take the WTFness if that would be horrific.

If you want to wear those tights I think you need to get some scarlet shoes so that you aren't cutting yourself quite so short. That said, a different colored sweater is your best bet.

It isn't that it will look bad to wear the colored tights. It's more that it will make you look shorter, because it will interrupt the line of your leg. So the sleekness you get from the wrap dress will end at its hem. At the very least, matching your tights to your shoes continues the line to the floor.

I would go with the colored sweater/shrug personally. It's my favorite way to add color.

Same colour cardigan/tights might be a good idea.

Am agreeing with the others--match the cardigan and tights.

I would say it depends on which portion of your general fabulousness you want to highlight today. If it's face/hair go with the different color cardigan , black dress and tights. If it's legs, go with the tights. (they sound gorgeous!)
I have to agree that even at this time of year, head-to-toe black is a little severe.
If you are currently blonde, I think it would wash out your coloring unless you add a lil' sumpin' sumpin'.
If you go that route, do you have a pretty scarf or some colorful jewelry that could break things up?

I forget exactly who was voting for what above so I cannot reference, but for the record my position is: Scarlet shrug and all black tights/shoes or black shrug & not quite opaque tights and drop dead laquery patent crimson shoes. But I am not all matchy-matchy usually.
