Oh, yes, Precious, it must have it, it must: The Brit Pop Box: UK Indie, Shoegaze and Brit-Pop Gens of the Last Millennium... Disc 1, the first of THE BRIT BOX's four chronologically ordered CDs, roughly spans 1984-1990. Seminal U.K. artists including The Smiths, Jesus & Mary Chain and The Stone Roses take timeless guitar-pop and freshly reinvent it, while groups including Happy Mondays and Primal Scream borrow gleefully from hip-hop to give birth to acid house.
Disc 2, spanning '90 to '93, explores bands that came to be known in the British press as “shoegazers,” acts that spent more time looking at their feet than making eye contact with their audiences. Featuring tracks by Ride, My Bloody Valentine, The Telescopes and others, the music courses through a sonic space comprised of introspective soundscapes, hazy guitars and dense production.
Disc 3, focusing heavily on '94-'95, opens with Suede's “Metal Mickey.” Throughout, the song sequence heralds the arrival of Brit-pop, and hugely popular bands including Oasis, Blur, Pulp, and Elastica.
Disc 4, THE BRIT BOX's final CD, shows that even latecomers to the party like Ash, Super Furry Animals, Mansun, The Verve, and Placebo had some smashing songs in them.
Also, dudes, it comes in a red telly-fone booth shaped box! *GIPs* Anyhow, I just spent a week in November collecting all the Jesus and Mary Chain albums, which was not easy. I have to say, I really love Rhino Records -- it's the modern version of K-Tel or RonCo records. While not Rhino, today from iTunes I purchased the Mad Men (AMC) soundtrack and Christmas Memories by Lawrence Welk.
Spent the weekend housecleaning and gift shopping. The first stop of the season was, of course, Target, followed by Bath & Body Works. I won an auction on eBay for 6 "The Perfect Christmas Tree" wallflower scent diffusers for $23.00, including shipping, which is better than the current price of 4 for $20. Oh, wait, I'm supposed to be shopping for everyone else... tomorrow it's back to Target to pick up the pictures I ordered through oFoto, and then to Macy's for the MIL and birth mother gifts. On Wednesday, I'll transfer the money I've been saving for Christmas gifts and hit my Amazon wish list for the kids' gifts. Dh wants a set of nice headphones (I'm looking at a Bose set) and I thought I'd get him a new monogrammed robe and some slippers.
Our Christmas tree looks really gorgeous -- I'll post some pics this week. I need to recharge my camera battery first. It's a true Victorian tree!
As to everyone losing their shit over LJ being sold to a Russian company, I don't know whether it's a good or bad thing, and frankly if my personal experience continues to be satisfactory... I admit it -- I don't really care who owns LJ. My personal hill to die on does not -- and probably never will -- involve fighting for the right to post NC-17 fannish material to a specific blog site in a publicly accessible manner (and, in fact, I tend to err on the side of password protected sites, to be honest) , so the whole previous kerfuffle involving 6A and whatnot? Yeah, totally not blippin' on my radar. Others feel differently, and I respect their right to plant that flag on that hill.

Date: 2007-12-03 09:48 am (UTC)I'm right there with you. I keep wondering if I'm a bad person because I just don't care, but... you know what? I just don't care. As far as I can tell, this will affect me not at all, and until it actually does, I'll be over here using LJ as per usual. If that makes me a bad person or something, so be it.

Date: 2007-12-03 12:29 pm (UTC)Oh. Oh WOW. I wonder what I own that I can sell so I can purchase this. It's like a trip back to college and asking my parents to videotape 120 Minutes and send the tapes to me.

Date: 2007-12-08 12:37 pm (UTC)Mine was the opposite experience, my college was 10 miles from the nearest town on the side of a mountain, so there wasn't any sort of cable. I have videocassettes of 120 Minutes (some with an hour of Liquid Television at the beginning) in storage somewhere.
And of course it was a big deal! That was our music! *grins*
